Yes, my dad was the Radio guy sitting behind the wing. Their mission was to fly out of Ramey Air Base in Puerto Rico and fly north to Greenland and return, ready at any moment to veer into the USSR and drop their bomb. Each man was given, amongst other things, a pistol and a supply of Rubbles, so that if they were shot down over Russia they had a chance for survival.

Then your Dad was also the in-flight Fire-Watch! I bet he had some engine over-heat stories to tell.

Well, better loosen him up and get him talkin'! Dad's don't last forever! I used a good bottle of whisky and sat my dad down and we chatted for several hours, sippin' gently. He told me lots of stuff, even about a half-brother I didn't know about! :-)

And now he's gone. I occasionally think of something and say to myself, "I'll ask dad!" and of course, I can't! If only I'd thought of it when he was alive! Darn!
Stop messing about - just get a Sub-driver!

Good points there, Mark. Sit on your Dad's chest and make him talk.

Strange old chimera of conventional piston and jet engine technology.

Todays Drone wars seem so remote from this
