Another wood kit that builds smoothly, but I hope that you like sanding as there is plenty of that. You can see from these pictures that I made a few minor changes to the design. The small vertical fins on the front canoes(not on the full size boat). The twin engine exhaust( no such animal). And finally the shape of the Engine cover is my own design. Quite an improvement I think. The paint scheme too was all Greenman407.

The die cut pieces really cut out a lot of work as they went together well.You have to put together a jig(parts included) to keep the build going together straight. You can see the shortcoming of this boat in that the space for the fuel tank was limited to a 8 ounce tank. I made my own engine cover out of Plastruc plastic from the hobby store. The kit supplied parts are of wood and it was going to be difficult to get good consistant curves and durability at the same time out of such thin material so I opted out. I hated to see wood grain in a finished boat and that always happened over time so this one I used fiberglass cloth and that was a good choice but using Hobby Poxy clear to cover it was not. Really good stuff for fuel proofing a paint job but not for a wood grain filing/covering job. I liked to never get it sanded down, about killed me. Here you can see a big mistake that I made before it gets covered up by the skin. The little 2 ounce fuel tank to supplement the meager 8 ounce tank sitting in amongst the small compartments filled with foam. Its this tank that caused the demise of this boat. Once it was all sealed up under the decking and put into service it started to leak. Wood and glow fuel dont mix. So from that point on it was used just for display. And now finally to the engine. The venerable K&B 7.5 marine engine. An economically priced engine with outstanding performance. Only if you were the most serious race minded individual would you be looking elsewhere, and then the advantage of a Nova Rossi or a Picco or a O.S. would be slim if measurable. There is the dastardly devil right there!!! This tuned pipe is made by an unknown company. It cost me a lot of aggrevation. I bought it from Toys for Big Boys out in California (now out of business) as a pipe for a 7.5 inboard. In use it caused the boat and engine to be uncontrolable. But at the time I didnt know that it was the pipe that was at fault. Over time I narrowed it down. The difference is that compared to other pipes that work well it is too small for a 7.5 and too big for a 3.5. Also a tuned pipe is usually made up of two divergent cone shaped sections welded together. This one is formed out of one piece and the large diameter section in the middle is 1 1/2" long. This combination makes this pipe one to be avoided like the Bubonic plague!!!
