The DVD, Devil Boat: The Saga of PT 658 is the one I was speaking of earlier. I watched it again yesterday just so I could answer the questions that were brought up. It is a Higgins boat The famous exhaust Mufflers that you see on the back of PT109 and others are not there. Instead they have curved exhaust stubs coming out at the water line on the sides. A great DVD. It has a lot of video from actual WW2 films and the real life drama of the restoration. Youll be glad you got it.

He Who Shall Not Be Named has requested some shots of my 1/16 PT project. Well? for He Who Shall Not Be Denied are a few pictures of the progress. Originally started in 1982.....yea that's right, it hung on the ceiling in the garage for its turn on the bench. Many projects and years later it's getting its turn on the bench. The Titanic" The smoker you drink, the player you get"Comment

Do you want it fast? Or, do you want it good? Pick one!
Thanks, Gene. You've taken us all back to school.

I mentioned the 85' ASR boats I worked on while in high scool in D.C.. Here is a site that gives specs. info, drawings and some pictures. The lines are beautiful, sheer, bow overhangs, curved transom etc.. Have a look!

Nice shots Mark am I right in saying the boat you posted is a higgens 7o foot series?
Thanks as well Gene. That is a damn fine model your doing.
David getting a working conversion that is as true to scale as I can do is my primary goal at this point. Most conversion I've seen on the net so far that run the 3 props have them all going in one direction. They seem to get around the prop walk by having slightly larger rudders behind each prop. Scale props would be pretty much 20mm all with a RH rotation. The pro-boat rtr version runs only two that counter rotate. But as I said above I want to try to stay close to scale. So far at this point I'll have to concede with the rudder size as the true scale ones would be a little inadequate to make it easier to run the boat.Last edited by alad61; 07-02-2013, 08:29 AM.Cheers,

One thing(of many) that I learned from the DVD is that the Elco PT boats were a British design that was copied and then later modified endlessly including lengthening the hull and strengthening some design flaws.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

Trying to find a good colour picture of them is interesting. As these boats did a fair bit of night stuff there aren't a lot I have found yet. I know that the 109 and many others that worked that theatre were painted green over the initial navy Grey's from the dock yard. They did that as a way to blend into the night and the back drop of the islands shorelines. What I have found so far is no definitive agreement on what green and that they were painted with anything from a brush to a mop. So I guess I'll have a bit of creative license when it's time to paint it.Cheers,
Alec.
