    Subdriver Setup

    Hello all,

I'm building my first Sub model - the Trumper 1/144 conversion- and have two setup questions. I don't have much in the way of specific instructions besides the excellent DVD build video - so if I'm missing something please direct me too it! OK on to my questions.

    1) Receiver antenna. I have the prebuilt subdriver with an external antenna nicely in place on the aft bulkhead. Do I need to connect the reciever antenna on the "dry side" to it in some way? It does not look like there is an obvious way to do this. Or do I just leave the receiver antenna coiled up inside?

    2) Servo and ADF setup. Looks like the bow and stern planes each are driven by their own servo. I assume I want these to work in tandem. Should I mix these together on my transmitter or use a "Y" harness? If mixed, which servo should I connect to the ADF - front or rear planes?

    Thank you,

    Dwight Eyrick

    1. Cut off all of the receiver antenna but what it takes to reach the threaded lug on the dry side of the motor-bulkhead and make up the receiver antenna to the lug with nuts and washers -- this complete integration of the receiver an external antenna into a proper antenna system.

    2. The bow planes and stern planes are not coupled directly or mixed, they work independent of each other. Put the angle-keeper (ADF pitch controller) to the stern planes.

Which 1/144 Trumpeter kit, the KILO or the SEAWOLF?

      David,

Thanks for your quick response. It's the SeaWolf that I'm building.

One followup question. If I have independent control over the fore and aft planes, how do I set it up on my transmitter? I'm planning to use the left stick for throttle (up/down) and ballast (left/right). The Right stick for rudder (left/right) and the dive planes (up/down). I'm using a six channel transmitter and receiver so I have the spare channels.

Just a guess. If I set the angle keeper on the rear planes do I then put the front planes on the stick and the rear planes on an auxillary channel? That way I would do most of my "driving" with the front planes while the rear work to keep the boat level. I don't want to be any more of a "Crazy Ivan" at the pond than I need to be!

      Thank you,

      Dwight

You got it right as to transmitter stick assignments. Good work.

          sub driver set up

Dwight, some apc's dont even need a seperate channel to operate. The APC-3 in my U-boat is just hooked up to reciever power. If you want to override it though for either a faster dive or surface you need another channel. Ted
