Charging Batteries....Redux

Ok, one more question about charging....then Ill leave everyone alone (until I think up another question).
Can a LIPOLY battery, (or any other type for that matter) be connected to a circuit while charging, or is it best to use a dpdt Charge/Run switch be used to switch from Running to Charge mode?

That is said to be 'floating' the charge. Current is split (the ratio depending on the load presented by the circuit) between current going into the battery and current going into the circuit. No problem providing the load is not taking current from the battery.

But, for simplicity sake, get the battery out of the circuit while charging.
