Reve;; 1/144 German Submarine Wilhem Bauer

Hello fellow modellers and perhaps CG, getting away from tanks.

I have been offered the 1/144 scale Revell Model of the German submarine Wilhem Bauer.

Has anyone converted this to RC using any of Caswells kits. Just asking before I purchase this kit.

Yes I am a complete NEWBIE to submarines,

That's the submarine in real life now and the Kit. I am not sure but I think the kit is approx 30 inches in length.
They do not tell you too much re dimensions etc,

Not the worst 'first boat'. But, very close to the worst first boat.

    I recommend the 1/72 SKIPJACK.

        G'Day, CA!!

There appears a write up on this model here:
Welcome to the Internet's most popular hobby and general scale modeling online magazine - Cybermodeler Online.

Click on "Reviews", Ship and Warship kits
then select "R", for Revell, followed by the scale in question.

A basic historic information on the sub, but no conversion information.
She'll finish at about 21" in length.

With all of your "target" experience in dealing with cramped spaces, a conversion of this sub
should be doable, but will be a little daunting due to it's small stature!

I, too, agree with Mike and David with regard to the 1/72 Skipjack, but my first sub was
the Revell 1/230 Skipjack, and I managed to pull the conversion off pretty nicely!! She's
0nly about 13" in length, but I wanted something small enough that I could drive around
        our pool!!

Welcome to "The Dark Side", Mate!!

If you do decide to do the 144 scale boat, try these http://www.sub-driver.com/sub-driver...river-kit.html

              Hi,
I'm working on a 1/144 scale Type XXI. There are some issues but also some easier aspects of the Type XXI. The rudder control horn is very difficult to conceal in that narrow stern. I'm working on a belt drive system I took out of an old printer. Putting in the prop shafts seems easier then GATOs and Type 7s. I'm waiting for my sub driver, but working slowly to get my Type XXI ready. I will post some build pictures eventually.

For a first sub, you want the following.

                  1. Common as muck, with many prior builds. That way all the creases have been ironed out and you can get plenty of building advice
                  2. Not too much fiddly detail, so the build time is reasonably quick
                  3. A reasonable size, but not too big. Think back seat of the car size.
                  4. A good boat to drive. 1950's and 60's nukes are best, nothing to touch them for speed and poise.

Ignorantly? You were fully informed! You read my WIP. The insanity plea does not work here......I think the Gato is a tougher build for sure....Worst no. The worst for me was the Aluminaut, but I think it depends on the individual. The Lindberg Japanese submarine might be David's worse sub, but someone just building it not worrying about accurate, might not feel the same.
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Touche! You did warn us all with your WIP but i was drawn to the Gato. It had to be my first!:). As soon as i get it trimmed she will sail
