What is this toothpaste masking technique as it applies to painting subs?

I saw HWSNBN use this on a model recently so I looked it up online. This is all I found: http://www.flamesofwar.com/Default.a...53&art_id=1736

Does anyone have more? And where would it be appropriate to use this on a model like the 72 scale SKIPJACK, GATO or u-boat?

Below waterline, it represents 'rubbed off' portions of the hull where layers of marine growth peel off throgh flow or pier/cammel action

I saw the results a few days ago when you painted a Type 212. I just now thought to save those pictures for further study but I can't find them in the forum today. They came up the other day when I checked for new activity. Do you have a link that you could share?

OK. I found one by going to the Forum page after I convinced the computer I didn't want to see Activity. Very Angry

Now to see if I can find more.

          Finally found the thread: http://forum.sub-driver.com/showthre...6-Type-212-Kit

I'm going to bookmark it for future reference. There is a lot there that I need to know.
