    Got it.

Doing this for the fun of the build, much less the finished product so was curious as to what that process would look like. Clearly out of my current capabilities.

    Thanks, Dom.

    Wow!

Either pay Dumas what they want for finished product. Or spend the big-bucks to properly outfit your man-cave after graduating from the school-of-busted-thumbs-and-stiches.

    Pick one!

This ain't a hobby one casually gets into without some kind of meaningful investment (time, money, talent, commitment, wife-appeasement, practice, and getting on speaking terms with your tools).

Machine and Cartridge brass (tube of all shapes, sheet, shim, strip, structural shapes, and round stock of all shapes) available from McMaster-Carr. You handy with drill-press, lathe and mill? If you're serious about 'making your own stuff', then you need the proper tools.

    You game?

Wow your Sovremmeny came out nice.

What I did before coming here was remove the old wiring, the old receiver, and added a Flyski receiver with two ESCs. I had proportional control on both throttles before messing something up with the motor. I even managed to connect a servo to the forward 30mm turret. I had kept the stock motors cause at the time they worked.

The vessel has no rudder, but I am not sure if I want to undertake the challenge of adding a rudder, although it would be a good learning experience. Might think about that….

What I am currently doing is replacing the motors.

Nonproportional throttle with differential steering. Stuffing tube doesn't have bushings at the ends to act as stand off bearings that also help contain the grease.

Personally I would rip the old stuff out except for the stuffing tube which you already JBWelded in place and get new motors, a 9gm servo for the rudder, a brushed motor esc, 7.2v lipo, and a 2-3channel 2.4ghz radio.

Cleaned both out with 91% isopropyl alcohol. Slight improvement but still not where it was.

Looking online for a small electric motor now. The ones I have are 1.25”x1”, or 3.175cm X 2.54cm.

I do not mind if the replacement motors are slightly slower. The ones I have used are too fast for the scale.

Recommended sources for replacement motors? Recommended specs?

Either the old motor's shaft is rusted or old grease inside it has hardened causing binding. Just swap it out with a fresh one (motor).

Flush it with >90% Isopropyl Alcohol. This will require you to remove it from the model. Most hobby motors are difficult to disassembly, so do the best you can through the air vents
