Where to run?

If I'm going to build a fully functioning RC submarine, I need a place to run it.
So, where do people run?

Should I be looking for a swiming pool, pond, other ?

Is there a club or site in the San Jose, CA area?

Well, it needs to be wet. So what have you got around you?

Pools needs smaller cheaper boats, lakes can use both, but the smaller ones aren't so visible.
Bigger boats are usually fiberglass and cost more.

It therefore depends on the water available and the wallet.
