Good morning bubbleheads!
I'm NavyShooter (Brad) and am a neophyte at these things that you build and send underwater, hoping to see them return.
I'm NOT unfamiliar with submarines or things underwater - I served in the RCN for 26 years, always on the surface side, but as a SONAR Tech, so fixing/repairing/maintaining the ship's ASW gear. I also at one point was trained on the Seabotix vLBV underwater ROV system that the RCN bought - I went down to the factory in San Diego to do some acceptance inspections as a Petty Officer.
I topped out as Chief, (CPO2) and then rolled into the Army Reserves - doing some useful things there and still do that part time, whilst working a full time job with DND doing optics repairs.
In terms of building subs - back when I was in high school, I wanted to build a 1/144 scale U-Boat, and did so out of balsa, and tried to make it R/C - that was a lost cause though and that sub is lost to history.
About 7 years or so ago I started getting back into model ship building, and have been puttering away at a model of HMCS Bonaventure in 1/96 scale for over 5 years. I've been somewhat prolific in the 3-D printing of ships, starting with a Liberty Ship, a couple of Corvettes, a model of Titanic in 1/100 scale (almost 9 feet long) and my most recent project is a series build of the Type 26 Destroyer that the RCN is procuring.
That said, I discovered Bob's 3D print files for the Upholder/Victoria Class, and decided to pay the price and 'dive in'.
Am I going to make a fully RC one - we'll see. Right now, I've got a sample printed in PLA that I'll start a build thread about.
So, anyhow, that's a bit about me...I'll attach a couple pictures here and you can make fun of the skimmer guy.
Thanks Bob for helping with the account setup!
