Narcis Monturiol just studied nature. Looked at a fish, based it on one. Very clever man, but a bad business man. Did you know he invented salt beef? He divulged information of how to make salt beef to a fellow who then hopped it over to England and made a fortune exporting it all around the World.
Monturiol never saw a penny. It's a typical tale of inventors. Nikola Tesla should have died the richest man in the World, he had a contract with Westinghouse that for every horsepower generated with his invention (the AC motor/generator) he would receive a dollar. Just think, every watt of enery we use is generated with his invention.
Unfortunately he was persuaded to rescind that contract for a large sum of money (although a fraction of what the contract was truly worth) which at the time he was in desperate need of to pursue his ambition of achieving wireless power. He died penniless.Comment
