Nope. ECHO. Cruise-missile guidance-control antennas. In 'deployed' position (leading edge of sail rotated 180 degrees).

Oh, hell, just peeked over at the SubCommittee site (currently in 'care-taker' mode) and got reminded that the shot is the radar unit of the similar (shorter and fatter) JULIET diesel SSG. ****!

      Damn you, Mark!

Yes, Agree with Dave, ECHO, Guidance radar, in Providence Rhode Island approximately 3 years ago seeing as this museum ship sunk due to weather about 2 years ago, was raised by US Navy salvage divers last year, and is currently being broken up and s****ped about a half mile down river from that shot.

Well, that's Lady Liberty in the background. So this is Sullenberger's ride, as it was left tied up to a pier for the over-night before a proper salvage job could be performed.

160,000 pound, very expensive, semi-watertight, metal, well flown, glider. Only one water-landing. Both engines need some work. Cheap.

ID:	60683 The funny part is when I saw the first picture in my Google submarine search I thought it must be a new X tail or something. After searching the website that generated the picture I found this expanded picture which answers all the questions. Im a slow study you understand.

Check this out for more info:

If you want to know about one of Tautog's "CLOSE" encounters with an ECHO II read about it in "Blind Man's Bluff"

639mpa, Great link, Thanks. I have read "Blind Mans Bluff" and I do remember the account. However I also read that years later the captain of the supposed sunken Echo surfaced and denied any major damage. Who knows.

No big deal. It's synchro-motor. used in repeaters and remote analog displays. It works off phase-shift from relatively high-frequency control inputs. USN used 400 kHz gear, don't know about the Commie's. You see a lot of those used in old ballistics computers.

Cool! Whats its purpose? It can only rotate a few degrees to the right and a few degrees to the left, but it doesnt through a switch or anything its just there.
