Painted that the same time they painted the Baleo for the Pettycoat movie, late 59 one right after another on the Marine Railway here in The Naval Station Key West shipyard. They werent the same color exactly. for the movie they used international Orange for the target vessels toned with plane old USN white enamal to get the faded pink effect. The actual "pink WWII sub was the USS Sea Dragon which was actually faded by the tropic sun, red lead primer undercoat. The movie script said it was red led with white because thats all that Tony Curtis could find. Actually they tried to mix the two real USN milspec paint colors, but came up with a brown muddy look. Scuttlebutt was the Hollywood guys saw the Albicore and said thats the color they would take for one of the loaner boats for the movie. some sandcrab at PW suggested to tone it down with white. The two loaners were the Balleo and Archerfish, both schedualed for O&R on the ramp. Baleo being the next boat in line got the pink and the "Lead roll" of the "Sea Tiger" Archerfish got the part of the boat when it was all run down in the beginning of the movie, before the paint job Then there is the real USS Key West big n black attack, been here before and wont be back.
