    Re: Kilo 1/144

    Hello All,

Nice to be here and Thank's to Mike for tips on the Kilo. This is mine first experience with RC sub, I am building one from the Kilo plastic model and trying to make the conversion. I am facing many unforseen hurdles from start but I believe I will be able to sort things out. Any advices or comments are welcome. :)

I have just uploaded two more sets of Cabal reports on the Kilo. These cover painting and weathering - good stuff!
Stop messing about - just get a Sub-driver!

      Mike,

I've downloaded the .pdf of the Kilo report twice, once before your message and once after. Both are 34 pages long and appear identical. Is there any content I'm missing?

Also, I was wondering whether there's a story behind the use of Cabal in these reports. On the surface, cable seems a better choice, but I sense that Dave is a bit mischievious...

Thanks so much for providing this information resource. My boys were fascinated by their short experience with Dave's RC subs, and I'm hoping they will keep up with it, learn much and have some fun. The information you've taken the time to record and publish will greatly increase their chances for success.

There are two pdf files, and they are quite different. I have amended the headers to show this.

          Re: Kilo

I am glad to see some activity here on the Kilo. Like I said before I am just starting on my overdue Kilo project from almost two years back. Had I not purchase most of my parts from other sources already, I would go ahead and purchase the Sub-driver from Mike. Perhaps another Sub down the road. JC.

Cabal as in a secret society or group.

              Explanation of a Trivial Point

              Thanks for the explanation.

I did know the definition of cabal when I asked the question, this is what piqued my curiosity:

Read David Merriman's Cabal Reports Here

As I kept looking around the web, I found that the original context was "Notes to the Cabal,"which syncs up well with the definition you've provided.

A "Cable Report" or reporting cable is used by diplomats (and others) to provide a narrative of some important event. My background made me think that this was appropriate and that Dave was making a pun on this meaning.

                    I'm the One From IPMS

                    Hi Dave,

We did meet at IPMS--something I'm very grateful for. Each of the kids had a blast and it was really the highlight of our trip.

My older son "appropriated" the Kilo kit I bought as soon as he saw it. He has been working on it at home and after school in the Engineering club. He's still working out static balance and has to make the last pushrod connections. One thing he had some trouble with is filling the copper tank with propel. After 3 tries, he finally took my suggestion to have the bottom of the Propel can face up when filling. (There was a good teachable moment when I asked him whether he was trying to fill the copper tank with a gas or a liquid.) Once he figures out the few remaining issues, he'll get the opportunity to test his work in the school's pool.

My other son also really enjoyed the chance to operate the sub at IMPS, but hasn't had the chance to start working on one yet. Once you get off your duff and deliver the new Skipjacks, my younger son and I will tackle that project. I got the WTC kit for that one, which will be a good opportunity for my younger son to get involved in the mechanical assembly.

My older son is also really anxious to make a working torpedo. He's looking for Mk 48 performance including an End of Run with pyrotechnics. I want him to start with a motorized cigar tube sans the explosives. We'll see what happens. I think he wants to sink somebody's battleship--a perfectly understandable impulse.

I remember. The kids were good with the sticks too -- had to pry them loose from the transmitter if I remember correctly.

Damn Caswell keeps making announcement of products I am not ready with -- that's how he keeps me so damn behind in my orders. I was the last to know that the SKIPJACK's were being offered again. Wow!

Let me know what I can do to get that KILO done for you guys.

Put the torpedo away, step back, and no one gets hurt! ....
