    Cold Water Question

Its gonna be nice here today.

The waters are only just above freezing.

I have never given my Robbe SeaWolf a maiden voyage.

Will cold water of about 34F or +2C be a problem?

Should I wait till its warmer water>

I should mention I will run it where it can be retrived no problem, where it is visible and clear. I am anxious to give this large scale sub stuff a shot. I have only ever taken a Wallyworld sub out on patrol.

Yes - It'll be bloody murder on your hands!

Biggest problem will be the obvious one of increased buoyancy in cold water, cant see you having any other issues.

Increased boyancy, thats a good thing for first trials.
I was worried about shrinkage and O rings.

Throw that thing in the water, you're not firing up the Space Shuttle here! Screw those O-rings, they'll be fine.

The biggest problem you will have is recovery (should it be required).

Not sure how long you would last swimming about in that temperature and its certainly something I would not be keen to try.

I thought it would be cool to have a emergency surface through very thin ice...would look really sweet. I will have her in the water in a few days. Thanks guys, pics to follow.

Yes that might look cool, but it sounds dangerous.
Guys I fished a kid out of a rip in the surf here a few winters back. The water temp was 11 degrees C. The kid was fine - his parents greatful. I wound up in an ambulance suffering from Hypothermia. I was in the water for just 10 minutes. You are talking about much colder water here. Be careful. In winter time I tend to seek out heated indoor pools to run my subs and here we have very mild winters cf Europe and N America.

Luckily here in Texas we don't have to worry about Ice in the lakes and ponds, but when it gets close to freezing ouitside I keep my toes next to the Fireplace, not close to cold water. :) Since there are only a few days in the year that it gets that cold, it's not that bad. :)
We do have to worry about Huge (Texas-sized) Catfish grabbing your model, tho. :D
They seem to get very hungry when it's cold. ;)

We have a rule up north. Never run your boat in water your not willing to jump into. Meriman is a diver, let him tell you what cold ass water will do to a person without proper protection!

You'll be surprised just how thin ice has to be to keep your boat under, you might finish up getting very cold.
