Let's ask the big question: Any estimation about the total cost incluiding subdriver, fittings and weaponry?Leave a comment:

Basically none of the drain and vent holes are open. The pieces are molded very thin in those spots if you want to cut them open.Leave a comment:

All the drain and vent holes in the hull, did you cut those out, or is it moulded like that?Leave a comment:

Hey, Von.
If you have plated magnets, I'm game. Our current source is Gauss Boys, http://www.gaussboys.com
Great variety of product and sterling service. Finished installing the latching magnets for the deck, after I take my hideous nap I'll do the same for the sail.
As far as electronic interference, there is none providing there is no relative motion between magnets and electronic devices -- no motion, no induced EMF. (Thank you, BE&E school!).

What if you mounted the magnets horizontal from the position you chose?
Then when the magnets slide into the hull attached magnet holders there is also a
mechanical hold down as the deck magnets slide partially into the hull magnet
holders. Also they won't extend as deep into the hull maybe.

Dave, I was wondering about the magnetic influance on the electronics. I just happen to be VP of production of my daugher's magnet buisness and have access to quite a veriety of sizes, shapes and power. If you would like, I can send you a variety of small synthetics to check out, for further projects. Those you are using, look like what we use. I put some small 5x1 mm discs in brass tubing that I made the retractable bollards and used them for a 1/48 scratch build type VII to hold the decks down. Im thinking I will do that to the big type II, if I ever get around to working on it this winter.Last edited by Von Hilde; 12-21-2013, 06:58 AM.Leave a comment:

The three-piece deck will be secured by magnets only, as will the sail to the middle deck piece. I designed and fabricated a proof-of-concept set of magnet foundations, installed them and they worked fine. Now to make an identical set which will be masters off of which I make a tool for the fittings kit parts.
