    Camera equipment

YA SKURVY SHWABS! To properly post pictures to this forum ya need a decent camera. If I may,you dont need to spend a lot of money to get it. What I did was stumble on a couple of good buys and I want to share them with you. For the past 6 years I have been using this. A Fuji S700. It has 10X zoom and 7.1 megapixel capability, and the best thing of all is that it has microfocus and it cost me about $200 at Wallymart.

Recently, since this Fuji worked out so well I thought I would continue the tradition of the Fuji and I bought this Fuji S4800. It differs from the earlier one in that its $279.00 and it has 30X zoom and 16 Megapixels. The only thing I dont like about it is that it doesnt have microfocus. But it still gets to like 6" away from subject and still focuses. They both use AA batterys instead of those expensive hard to find batterys. They both have removable SD cards and come with a USB cord to go direct to your computer. Oh! and they both take video. How can you go wrong?

        Good thread!

You're right, today about two-hundred clams will buy a fine camera that will photographically document everything -- and with a video capability for you Youtube nuts, to boot.

And Mark's point about the battery -- a good one: make sure that the camera you buy will use rechargeable batteries, as its much cheaper than to spring for a new battery every time the camera drains it. And these cameras a current hogs, particularly when you use a lot of flash.

And then, for underwater duties I bought this. Its a Sealife waterproof to 130' digital, still and movie camera. Its also shockproof. I bought it at a dive shop for a couple hundred, with a rebate. Its built like a tank. You can drop it and pick it right back up and go to town with it. You open up the battery compartment and there are thick orings sealing the door. Great for that underwater video of your sub sliding past.

Oh, and one more thing that is a slight inconvenience about the Fuji 4800, it has a large screen to see what you are taking a picture of. Great, but in the bright sun its hard to see. In the S700 it has the screen and a viewport that you can look thru and the sun doesnt bother you cause you are looking thru a viewport. Oh Well, I guess you cant have icing and your cake and your cherrys all at the same time.

Oh and by the way. The other Fujis that I have take AA batterys. If you go to Homey Depot, you can get 48 AA batterys for $14.00. Thats 29 cents each. Thats for Nevereadys(Evereadys). Rayovac usually has a better deal than that. Wallymart cant touch that deal.
Why do I have three cameras? I dont. Im just upgrading. I gave away the first one.

YES! As Im discovering with my 30X zoom, holding the camera still enough at those high zoom numbers is a chalenge for sure. If you move even a smijen then the picture will not be sharp. Need a tripod or a concrete block. What helps me is to put the camera on my knee and holding it with two hands.

The sealife is a solid performer, and sounds like a good price

GoPro's come as standard with an underwater housing, think its rated to +200feet (and it is ;) ). As well as video, they also have an option to take stills every 5 seconds, 10 seconds etc etc.
Still havent mounted mine on a sub yet.
