    High-school teen builds one-man submarine for $2,000

Here's an uplifting story that shows us that tinkering isn't lost on today's youth.

The submarine's body may be constructed from drainage pipes and the hatch from a recycled skylight, but according to its 18-year-old inventor, this single-person U-boat can plunge to a depth of 30 feet and has already completed three successful dives.

The Nautilus took high school inventor Justin Beckerman just six months and $2,000 to put together -- all while keeping on top of his homework.

"He has been building things since he was two years old," says his mother, Jess Beckerman. "If we tried to help him we would just get in the way and mess things up."
An 18-year-old high school student, Justin Beckerman, has built a fully functioning one-man submarine. The project cost just $2000 and took six months.

In this link to the news article they claim it cost him about $950.00 to build, and 2000 ft. of wire being used in the project.
Although an impressive task for this young man, I wonder how much it really cost to build. I certainly admire his abilities, and only hope nothing bad comes out of any future testing.

Success requires risk. Sure success requires informed risk, a plan, and work.

I'd say the young man has probably received his fair share of calls from more than one venture capitalist, not to mention a few tech schools around the country after seeing the news.

Absolutely, and thanks for putting that all into perspective. Hopefully this young man is aware, and follow the points you have outlined.
