    Schnorkel

My wife and I are buzzing around the planet for a few weeks and at the moment we're in Xia'n, China, looking at the clay soldiers. Anyhow, when we were in Melbourne, we saw several vehicles with these strange attachments, and my brother Paul (an Aussie) told me they were Schnorkels. They're used for running around the bush and driving through deeper creeks so the air can be sucked into - good grief - you get the idea.

I never managed to take a photo of them in Oz, but tonight, coming back from dinner at the snazziest restaurant we've ever been in, there it was! On a jeep, where some poor sod was getting married and they were fixing a wedding bouquet to his wagon. Or maybe it was a funeral for him?

Anyway, here it is - the neatest thing I've seen in years.

Yea, one sees a number of 4x4 SUV decked out with these & countless other off-road accessories that will never EVER see use out in the boonies. They usually come have I ♡ China stickers plastered on them as well.

The most egregious one I've seen locally is a Greatwall Hover - the same model I drive - painted panzer grey with large German crosses & SS runes on the front doors... not something I'd be interested in driving about town.

      Tourists!!

Australia is very very different to any other nation. Very little habitual land, and as an Island continent simply massive. Shame you spent your time in two of the most boring cities in the world Mike. You may as well have been on a trip to NYC (except that would be exciting).
Snorkels in this content are no different to a sub. They allow you to supply air to your diesel, whilst you run your "proper" 4WD semi submerged across creek / river beds. "Proper" refers to a true off road designed and equipped vehicle and none of this limp-wristed SUV crap which is basically like taking out a mobile ad that says "I'm a ****** and have no interested in motoring".
