    Information Threads

Gents, there is a wealth of posts on build threads of most types of Subs.

Everyone tells you to go read and review. Perfect! but its not a good use of time to search aimlessly. Random searches are for the retired or those not working with plenty of time spare.
Looking up a Cabal report for a Type VII certainly isnt a logical move to read the Seaview SD cabal. How would a new person know to do that? Or a potential customer?

I offer that they should all go into their own headings so that all needed info (in my case) Type VII posts have been consolidated together. One stop shopping :-)
This task could happen after a build thread has completed or a period of time elapsed.

Individual build thread posts continue, for Authors to showcase the model, just move them after author has completed or appropriate time elapses into headings.

    Type VII

    Gato

    Seaview etc etc

Just my thoughts on how best to utilse the great information and expertise shown in threads on this board.
Might just save you from answering the same questions over and over???? Or not!

    What do you think?

    Cheers

    Brett

And who, pray, is going to spend hours and hours tabulating and rewriting this? Not me! It took me long enough to get it the way it is now.
Stop messing about - just get a Sub-driver!

Mike's right, Brett. Though chaotic to you, what he's put together is much more 'user friendly' than the mish-mash he initially had to work with.

I'm busy developing product. Mike's working to find product. This forum is a side-line to us right now. When we can, we'll better index the content here. Till then? DIG!

I know there are a couple of people here that would be willing to help out on the forum. 8-)
But, I have found the search feature to work real well for pulling information out. It will not help with reading a Seaview cabal report for a type VII, but you haven't read all the reports? I recommend it. You will glean information that you can use on any build.
I too have thought how great it would be if all the subs were grouped together, it would make it easier. I suppose you can look at this current site like an easter egg hunt and find nuggets every so often. I just learned that you can differentiate the Delta revisions by the windows? And I thought they all looked alike!
However, if help is needed on the forum, I will throw my hat in. If not, I will still enjoy this site.
        Peace,
        Tom
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

          All,

I look on what Mike has created here as that dusty old book-store with the grumpy clerk up front who answers all client inquiries with, "it's back there in the corner, find it yourself, damit!"

Yes, you had a specific author and book in mind, but during your search -- if you have the guts and fortitude to do it -- you found so, so much more back there. Before you knew it, you've been at the place for hours, with a stack of books pulled out you had no idea you needed to read before you arrived.

Magic happens in the dark sometimes.

          Start digging ... damit!

Its Hogwarts magic castle allright, David makes a good Harry Potter with Mike the Headmaster, Dumbledorf!
Just offering suggestions as an outsider. You two magicians need some support.

Troutman, have read all the Cabals, got copies, kept the posts that I can see, and am waiting on my order, thats how I came to the conclusion on how best to serve the masses.

LOL! Received in the spirit handed out.

              Yes we do!

Honestly, I know it's a rat's nest right now. And, I can assure you, when Mike and I get the time, we'll do a better job presenting the wisdom currently so carefully hidden behind the thorn bushes.

It has occurred to me on many an occasions that certain 'instructions' are duplicated or re-hashed. Perhaps this is an opportunity for Trout and others to build up a set of generic instructions, and in those they could put HTML links to the originals?

I could make a special section and they could copy and paste into it.

And a 'fresh set of eyes' going over and collating this stuff would be a service to all. Who's game?

I'm such a wealth of knowledge I've lost the ability to determine what is important to you common air-breathing types out there. You know what's important to your work, I don't. Pick and chose the 'good stuff' and put it out here, front and center. Leave the old, re-hashed stuff in the moldy boxes you find it.

More than happy to work with Trout to help, leave the magicians to do their thing.
All we need to do as, Mike just pointed out, is ensure the "links" created are valid.
That would beat having to move posts from one place to another. Mike would just have to adjust his censorship rules just a tad :-)
Preferably to this one section if it can be done?

Plan stage one. Create Sub Topic headings as discussed within its own section. Some of the links are out of date as an example.
Let Trout and any other learned folk that wish to help, point out, post relevant info links.
The community will help out, it will be a board project.
We just need some keen folk to be able to be editors of said postings releaving the tedium and extra workload of the owners.
Some articles can be re-written with new up to date photos if needed as some of us may have software appropriate.
Can we start with Gato and TYpe VII? :-) It can be the "Test" for David and Mike and we can fine tune it.

Make sure this new section is up somewhere near the top of website.
Call it our apprenticeship period, just dont call me Dobby the house Elf!

                        Something like that! Thoughts?

                        Clear as a muddy bottom?

Mike, I like it. What say you, old wise one?

Yeah, the Type-7 and GATO are always hot topics, why not?

And thanks to Brett and Tom for standing tall here.

It will be exciting to work with Brett and others. I think the Gato and VII are high hit rates for new builders to old builders. I will contact Brett and we can hash out topic ideas.
We can also go through the volumes of data and create a list of most common issues (like trimming sub, how to wire your wtc, etc.) and create a FAQ.

David and Mike your hands are full, I can speak for myself (but I think Brett would say the same) the goal is to improve the site and not be a burden to the both of you (but also keep you in the loop and final say so).

Yes, a FAQ. That would be the most useful thing to start with. Answering those same questions asked again, and again, and ....
