Verrrry interessting.......(Artie Johnson - Laugh In - you had to be there)

The Timbira is a modified Type 209/1400 built by the Germans - HDW.

What's interesting to me is that it uses the same front dive plane system as the Type 202 - extend the starboard plane to go pitch the bow up and the port plane to pitch the bow down.

Quite effective when you're hurtin' for interior space.

In the fourth picture posted, is that a bow thruster that I see right close to the nose or some other appliance?

Not quite sure what you mean by appliance. In the fourth pic I see two openings in the hull, i.e., a torpedo door(I'm guessing) or it might be a cover (removed) for the bow hydrophone array and the port side dive plane.

Its a small rectangular opening except for the bottom of it which is curved. If you look up inside of it it looks like there might be a fan or blade up in there.

OK, I see it now. It's clearly not a torpedo door. Examining the head-on photo shows the doors. I've searched the web and can find no mention of the Type 209 having bow thrusters so I'm going to go with a removable covering of some sort perhaps giving access to the bow hydrophones - just a wild a** guess. I'm ruling out turn signals.

Yep, I think that it would be safe to say that its not turn signals or emergency flashers. Maybe recessed satelite radio antenna, I hear its only $19.99 a month.
