          Great photos! Am reading The Japanese Submarine Force and World War II after having finished Operation Storm. Both highly recommended for any IJN sub fans.

                    Great photo opportunity. Could you get closer and take detail shots like underneath hull details. Even if they wont let you get right up to it you could zoom in with a good camera.

                        The hole was caused by the USS Ward. First Japanese casualty of WWII. The tower of the A type did not have a hatch seperating the main hull. One luckey shot from the 5"38 Killed the officer,and sank the boat in a few seconds.

                            the antifowling system on the type A migets consisted of the bow diflectors and cable that went to the pullysystem on the top forward of the tower. The tower had a series of other bars to keep cables and nets from snagging on any par ot the boats. Also on the aft cone by the rudders and planes there were guards, Most of the post war display boats are not compleet due to battle damage or destroyed during salvage.The Guam boat does not have the tower portion of the system.
