Sibyl is the boat my dad was Chief Petty Officer on. His patrol sank 16 Japanese ships, got strafed with aircraft fire and depth charged for her troubles. Yes, I guess I'm interested in Sibyl! I've actually been on board her in Malta. I was about 4 years old.
Dad took me into the 'control room' where there was a swivel stool and a lot of green lights and 'stuff'. The captain called him on the intercom and he had to go upstairs. I was told not to touch anything, especially the red button.
Of course I touched it, lots of times and nothing happened, so I kept on pressing. Unfortunately, it was the klaxon and it sounded off across Valletta harbour, and I'm sure most of Malta thought the Germans were bombing them again! I seem to remember getting a thick ear! :)Stop messing about - just get a Sub-driver!Comment
