That sure is a very detailed kit, even though it’s pretty small. Good job as usual.

I applied the decals first, so that they are incorporated into the weathering process. Otherwise there will be a large contrast between the weathered hull and the shiny decals. After the decals have set, I applied a first filter on the flat black. The filter I used is made by thinning down a gray color till it’s almost water. Then one applies a wet coat either this filter gray. The uneven coat will induce subtle color shifts in the otherwise homogeneous base color as no paint job is ever perfectly homogeneous. Then everything is sealed with a layer of semi gloss clear. The base color starts to have a bit of life….
Next step in the weathering process of my 1:350 scale Albacore: the underwater section of the hull usually is bleached, and there is algae growth fading down from the waterline. To replicate this look, I first masked the upper hull, then I unevenly applied white wash using a tapping technique with a cut-off brush, then I applied a thin overspray with white grey that fades out to the bottom of the boat and finally I airbrushed a fading green zone at the waterline. Here’s the result under a bright daylight lamp. Looks much more dark under normal light. I like it….

Then ot's the over surface part of the hull...I weathered the upper hull using white wash (Vallejo). With a black base the way to enhance detail is to go to a lighter color. The wash is first used to enhance The recesses of the hull and then bleached areas are defined using a brush and patience….again the daylight lamp over-emphasizes the white .

The 1/350 scale kit of the American experimental submarine Albacore is pretty much done. Added some subtle rust streaks, painted the masts with a dark steel color, the props were painted old bronze using true metal color by AK Interactive and then finally the front edge of the sail got it’s transparent canopy. Tiny boat but allot of fun to build. Display base , stand and name plate are next.
