I agree.
Happy for the success artistically and financially for 'Oppenheimer' (2023). Many previous films have been done on that topic and person. But Oppenheimer as best as a American film can manage in story telling comes close in my opinion.
I have for years thought a film on 'Rickover' should be made. It would not all be about nuclear submarines, though that be a significant part, but on American attitudes on nuclear energy, attitudes about SCIENCE, and a lot about EDUCATION! Science? Hell yes! Americans behaved so abysmally because of backward anti science and medicine during COVID. Extremist religious views that preach dinosaurs and humans lived together, and the universe is only 6000-year-old? ****, these dumb asses think the Flintstones was a documentary!
It would be controversial and a bucket of cold water on so many institutions into indoctrinating and completely forgotten EDUCATION. But it would be seen as the studios trying to sell a similar toned film on the coat tails of 'Oppenheimer' Let Spielberg do it before he's gone. A Russian Jewish immigrant son of a tailor that changed the world. Nautilus is docked at Groton ready for background sets.
Rickover passed away a year after this interview. So much of the world has changed. ie. internet. Rickover vinegar to the internet's oil would be quite a shocking salad dressing...lol
I'm happy you enjoyed this post. I have saved it in my computer a while and I hardly ever keep th texts of interviews. It always inspires me referring t it.
So in my dreamed of movie who would play Adm Rickover? Sam Waterson? If he can be pulled away from 'Law and order' hell.Last edited by Albacore 569; 03-13-2024, 10:16 AM.Comment

Being a former Nuke, I really grew up a lot thanks to the Nuclear Power Program he kicked off. That said, it's also responsible for endless boring months and a pretty stressed stomach... but hey, that's all part of growing up, right?
My favorite coffee cup:
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.Comment

Thank you for your service, Lieutenant Fishboy. Long tedious watches and nothing with the reactor happened. Thats not bad at all. I guess you were a chaffier for the weapons guys, and the weapons guys where there to protect your reactor...lol Looming existentially over everything I imagine was 'Rickover'. lol. I had a cousin that went to Nuclear Power School at Mare Island NSY. He was on several SSBN's and then the USS Long Beach. CGN-9. The USN has an excellent safety record. Thanks.Last edited by Albacore 569; 03-18-2024, 01:31 PM.Comment
