    Barracuda class

Launched in the mid twenty's these three boats, V1, V2 , V3, served in WW2. Renamed Barracuda, Bass , and Bonita. A very Classy design to say the least with that specially shaped bow that paid out the anchor right out in front. A great disappointment they were. The engines were very unreliable and the bow planes retracted into the outer hull making adjustment difficult. The bow design made them forward heavy so they were always a handful. They were relegated to training duties after a brief but unsuccessful period of time in combat. They were part of the continuing evolution in American submarine design. Lessons were learned. The following pictures are extraordinary, which is what prompted this thread.

The fifth picture down captian says USS Argonaut. This is incorrect. The Argonaut was the V4. By examining closely the picture it becomes apparent that this picture is one of the V1 thru V3 boats.

The pictures showing the bows in drydock are quite revealing. Look at how far below the waterline the torpedo tubes are. Right down in the bottom.

Can anyone help with a plan layout for these boats? Any help would be most appreciated.

                I LOVE IT!!!!!!

It looks like a Beluga whale! What a lovely shape, much more interesting than those damned sewer piper tubes everyone keeps harping on about these days .

Just look at that 'duck-tail' stern, so much like the British designs of the period!

Are you going to build this from scratch?

I tried to emailed to the national archives. US, asking for a copy of Barracuda class sub plan, but the operations seems to be complex and this operation is for veterans. I tried to search for drawings of this submarine, unfortunately there seems to be none for sale in Europe, only in the USA. The shipping time is too long and such a small item is still easily lost, it would be nice to have a pdf version of the drawings if possible.
