American ww2 torpedos leave tell tale tracks

I have read in many places that American Torpedos would sometimes give themselves away because there alcohol burning engines exhaust would be visible as air bubbles behind the moving torpedo. That is one reason they went to the electric driven torpedo , accepting reduced performance to insure not being seen by the target ship. Well, I came across these two pictures that illustrate the point. In the second picture you can see the torpedo before it is launched on a training exercise and you can clearly see the exhaust coming out of the propellor.
