Hms Sceptre, a boat of the Swiftsure class had a interesting peacetime career. In the early 80s she collided with a Delta III, K-211. The Russians blamed it on a American Fast attack boat.In March of 1990 she suffered a reactor coolant leak. On Oct. 20th 1991 she suffered a fire while it was docked in Faslane. In August 1995 she had to abbort a patrol because of a " Unspecified fault in the propulsion system". A defect was found in the reactor but it was not deemed too serious until later. On 3-6-2000 while in drydock here propulsion system was being tested by powering it from shore with steam lines. Too much pressure was introduced and she went "Ahead Full", causing her to break free of her moorings and lurching forward in the flooded drydock. In March of 2005 a repair to her reactor took place in Gibralter amid much contriversy. Many details have not been revealed but as you can see she was the talk of the town.
