Nut job on sub shoots Commander

not a good day for the Royal Navy

A seaman charged with murder after a shooting on a nuclear-powered submarine in England changed his name to "Reggie Moondogg" and wrote violent rap songs before working for the Royal Navy.

        No.

As the Boat Diver on the WEBSTER I got chummy with the David Taylor divers (who worked out of the Carpentry Shop there, but that's another story) who were working the piers at Pad-5, our Guam work-up site for boat patrols. They did a lot of globe trotting, doing dives in support of NavSea missions and other, 'stuff'.

One of them showed me a bunch of u/w shots (Nikonos was THE navy diver's camera in those days), in beautiful, living color --photos of two or three bloated bodies, hard to tell, crabs were having their way with them, that they found jammed under a pier camel.

The story played out like this: The boat rubbing up against that particular camel had a crew with a big 'drug problem' (this was the early 70's). The photos were taken in support of an NIS assignment, evidence for a hearing. Apparently a dope deal went south on that boat and those guys were killed, weighed down with tools and other stuff, and tossed over the side one night/early morning.

(NEVER underestimate the buoyant force of an inflated body that's been soaking in tropical waters for a few days!).

That kind of **** does not make the morning papers. I'm just surprised that there are not more murders going on out there!

        David,
