    epoxy gel coat

Good Day gents and and ladies out there .
    Question for Dave:
Dave you are a fan of the west system epoxy grp resin, is this what you use for your production layups?
If so what do you do for gel coat? is there epoxy ( west system) gel coat or do you use polyester then the epoxy resin on top of that?

Rick, I know this was addressed to Dave, but im a trained GRP specialist and bored at the moment!!

West Systems is a fine epoxy for just about all apps. For aerospace style layups with ultra high modulus (airplane use) use MGS, it is the most "crispy" and hard/stiff epoxy I have found.

You can use polyester gellcoat for an epoxy layup, I always scuff it though, because it will only have a mechanical bond. My preference is to use automotive primer for a gellcoat on epoxy parts. I just brush it in the molds, and the flat primer naturally has open "pores" for the epoxy to bond to.
