That sub (blueback I think? playing with the target) turns on a dime........are the 1/1 scale subs also using a spade rudder, or is this just for model maneuverability purposes.
Those boat stands are smart David.

The first annual Elite Fleet get-together and fun-run at the local JCC. A great venue, and excellent cooperation between staff and the club. We had a ball! T...
American submarines, since NAUTILUS, have -- with few exemptions -- employed 'spade' (full flying) rudders. They give much better authority than rudders supported by vertical stabilizers, though are prone to damage as there are no outboard bearings to resist sheer loads. I assume the Russians favor the vertical stabilizers in order to deal with ice and dead-heads in the latitudes they typically operate in. That's why model ALFA'S and the like suck so badly in the turn.
Yeah, the boat stands work to save a lot of table space when I bring along more than a few boats to an event. Easy to make and sized for both big and small r/c submarine models.

I enjoyed watching the Blueback run. All the Bluebacks I have seen, they all seem to be a great performers! Once dialed it, they rock!
I like the stand. Did you run any other subs?If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.Comment
