fun-run at City Lake, Rocky Mount, N.C.

Ellie, Kevin, and I were at the City Lake on Black Friday. We thank Joe Wallace and the other locals there who rolled out the welcome matt. This club has fostered a great relationship with the city, securing what has to be one of the best model ship running bodies of water on the planet: City Lake.

There's a big 1/96 only fleet run there in October -- Ellie, me and other members of the Elite Fleet plan to be there. What a great site!

    We'll be back!

Very nice place. How clear was the water? I see you brought four boats with you. The Japanese camera ship, 1/96 Skipjack(your favorite), Thor Alpha, and 1/60th phase 3 Albacore. Did you get them all in the water? Looks like a nice outting.

      Hey, Mark.

Water had about a four-foot clarity -- not bad for city run-off. Got all the boats in the water. The ALFA and SKIPJACK were flawless on and below the surface -- got some local kids to drive them some. The KAIRYU ran fine but I broke off the port horizontal stabilizer by hitting one of the quay-wall vertical supports -- CA to the rescue and it finished the day well. Damned ALBACORE was porpoising all over the place. Should have done it there, but I need to take out the stern plane-bow plane mixing (what was I thinking when I did that! It never works).

Well worth the time and expense (we stayed the night there) -- even for a one-day fun-run. The next event we'll attend there will be the October 1/96 fleet run -- hope to have at least ten submarines to that scale ready in time (five of them will be SWM boats).

Nobody took photos of the subs in the water? It never happened then.
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

He must be from the "Show me" state. Dave doesnt go to any body of water without a sub in tow.
