Im thinking of putting a working shutter/bore doors on the 2nd type IX hull that still waiting on the dirty bench. Its rather small working in 1/72 so it will have to be simple. Same system of parts will be able to transfer to the Gatos and the I-53 Im sure theres a bunch of different ways, Manfred and Merriman figgured it out, but Ive been researching thru the Navy publications to see how the real deal works. the 1/72 system has to be simple, no room for complexity, but the larger scale boats I have space for a more complex system with the rub doors ect. OK, Dave fish is ready, get the T handl out, standby, for solution, Got my notebook ready for instructions. If I cant catch fish for any reason, instead of going to the grocery store, I go to the "Fish House" in this case, Navy terms, the fish house is the Torpedo shack. That be in Virginia Beach, or way across the big pond in the Netherlands.

I think, the first thing, I will sketch the model, and use photos of the real ones to see how they operate. Then I can fool with the model sketch without having to take it apart and experiment with a workable system. I am going to use the torpedo kit that Dave makes, for the type IX Revell kit. It will require a driver other, than the EZ that's in the first type IX. That will be a project within itself.

doesnt look too complicated door wise, however mechanisim will involve several rods, shafts, seals in the forward bulkhead of the driver, that wont be easy as well as an EZ. The doors will have to either all open simotaniously or just make one, a shooter. In this case being so small, simplicity, and expense dictates, a one only, for this model. so my choice would be a top one, unless someone thinks the lowers would be better.

Mark. That picture should look familliar. Heres cool picture but it hides the shutters and rubs. Be good for Daves torpedo kits for some box art on the product. tho, just fotoshop the building out and fill with pixils of the colors reflected on the boat from the display lights. My son will be transferring up to Chicago after Thanksgiving, I'll have to stop by the Museum and get my own pictures.

I read that the Museum doesnt allow flash photography. Some have braved a stern rebuke and used flash on the most important ones.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

Photographic memory., Could try the back door, sometimes you can get a special pass, via curator, and a little help from the Navy. Mabe, even get in the tower and on deck, after hours. Know it's a possibility,, have done it at the Collier Institute, car collection in Naples, and have the go ahead, invitation, at the Nimitz WWII museum in Fredricksburg Texas, to come in after hours and take measurements, and pictures. Never hurts to ask.Comment
