Assembly Instructions for the Skipjack 1.25 inch SubDriver

The D&E SubDriver for the 1:232 Revell Skipjack is a marvel once assembled, but comes from the Caswell empire as a mystery to be solved. There is a bag with lexan tubes, resin castings, and various other items. Documentation is limited to a single sheet that includes an inventory of the parts provided, as well as a partial listing of what's required to fit out the SubDriver. See:

    The Revell Skipjack Electronics Kit
    BT50 2 x Micro Servos
ESCMN 1 x Nano Speed Controller
AK1 1 x ADF Pitch Controller and Failsafe
SL-6 Nano or SL-8 Radio Receiver
    KSE002-LPG 1 x LiPo Guard Battery Saver
    V800 1 x 800 mAH LiPo Battery
    LiPo charger
***new addition (?) *** Mission switch

What's the mystery? How to best assemble the kit. In some ways, this kit is the most demanding of the D&E SubDrivers. Why so? ... No instructions (we're fixing that here), no pre-wiring, novel magnetic couplings for the control rods, and very tight confines to work in. Perhaps the Wizard can be distracted for a few moments each day to walk us through this assembly step by step.

This is an early step to take, and one of the few David has posted on this particular WTC. It comes from an earlier post from David that I can't copy over to here, but have to cut and paste:

"Here's the promised illustration on how to hook up the little ESC for your SKIPJACK.

You'll note that this is the identical circuit that comprises the MTronics Mini 10 marine ESC, but without the aluminum channel heat-sink, epoxy potting block and attached wires.

The ESC switch pads have already been soldered 'closed' so when you make up the battery to ESC, everything is 'on'.

Isolation of the entire SD system is through the single mission-switch located in the forward bulkhead of the SD. That switch wired in series with the battery and ESC."

    My questions and comments are:

How long and what gauge wire from the ESC to the motor? (Hardwire the ESC to the motor or use a connector? If a connector, what kind?)

How long and what gauge wire to the battery?

What kind of connectors do you recommend for the battery? (e.g. JST or mini Dean's)

How's about a wiring diagram for the switch?
