    They're static models, Dave.

Indeed twin rudders, in fact that has got me thinking- has there been another of our boats with twin rudders?

As arranged on the R? Can't think of any. Russian's and German's were big on 'em though.

      David,
      Who is John Galt?

Do you have any idea who owned the R & Swordfish?

I'd love to get more photos. They look great!

There all made by a modelmaker called David brown. Now I'm afraid i don't know him personally, but I believe he does a lot of modelmaking work for the RN submarine museum at Gosport.

AFAIK, he only makes static models. he produced this trio of WWII British subs last year-

I contacted the museum, they've never heard of him. Any more ideas?

I'm sure I read that in Model Boats. Could be the ol' grey matter playing tricks on my. I'll try a couple of contacts.

Okay, I've found someone who will pass on my details to Dave, and hopefully he'll contact me.

Any questions you want fielding to him?

                  Yeah.

First: express to him our appreciation of his fine work.

I'm very interested in the R-Class, so if he could give us a steer as to where he got his documentation, that would be much appreciated.

                  Thanks, Andy.

I spoke to David a few moments ago. Very nice chap to talk to, and a very prolific modeller- he has over thirty submarine models, and that is just the tip of the iceberg, as he also models aeroplanes, frigates, destroyers etc.

David keeps his models at the Royal Navy Training school, which is not far from where David lives in Cornwall, in the South West.

David explained that he makes his models from wood, plastic and some metals like brass and copper. The hulls are constructed using plank-on-frame, and skimmed with polyester filler to get a smooth finish for painting. All his models are scratchbuilt and static only.

He obtained drawings from the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich.

Green space, historic London attractions and beautiful city views - discover the best that Greenwich has to offer

I've mentioned this in the past, but get ready for a very nasty shock at the cost of drawings from there- really extortionate. One chap recently enquired about drawings for the monstrous HMS X1, the quote came back at well over a hundred quid!

He also mentioned some books called 'To Sail no more' by Mike Critchley and Maritime books-

He didn't mention a specific publication, but I'm sure if you contact the publishers they'll be able to assist.

                    Hope that helps.

                    Andy

Hello! I am badly interested in purchasing these plans... Is it still possible? Thanks in advance.
