Specs for MBD British "S" class sub

    Sirs,

I realize that you're just copying the text off of the Model By Design website and that they don't have the specs either, but could you please measure and post the specs for the Group 3 "S" class British sub shown on your model page. I am very interested in building a British WWII sub and am awaiting the correct specs for the "U" class sub and any specs for the "S" class sub.

    Thanks for your time,

    Dan

Hmm! I wonder what happened to those specs? They used to be on the S Class web page.

    Scale: 1 to 38
    Hull: 68.5 inch
    Beam: 7 inch

    U Class

    Scale: 1 to 32 approx
    Hull: 68.5 inch
    Beam: 7 inch

I have both of these models in stock. The fiberglass work is very good. You will not have to struggle like I did on the old Metcalfe grp work.

      Dear Admiral,

Thanks for your reply although it does make me a little nervous. Are you saying that both the U and S class subs have identical size hulls (LOA and beam)?

For all the world it looks like MBD builds ONE hull to be made into TWO (THREE if we count the V class) different classes of WWII British sub each being built to a different scale.

The U and V class were different enough from the S class and were more than just shrunken S class subs.

Another question. I don't see any Lambert plans being available for your model of S class sub. When I go to the Lambert website I find only plans for the Group 1 S class (early- and pre- war) but not for the group 3 (unmodified) type that the MBD model so clearly is. Do you have Lambert plans beyond those advertised on Lambert's own website?

      Sorry to be a pain,

      Dan

The hulls are very different, although the overall length is the same. You can see this if you look closely at the pictures on the Caswell site. I think Darnell just liked big boats. They certainly look more majestic in the water.

John Lambert has about 4 sets of plans for the S Class, including # 3.

Drop him a line, he'll set you up.
