Hose manifold on back of rear end cap of 3.5" 1/72 Skipjack SAS SD - still used?

    David,

In looking at some of the pictures of the SAS SD it clearly shows a air hose manifold mounted on the outside of the rear end cap used to route the tubing out of the end cap and forward to the manifold on top of the ballast tank.

Needless to say, that's a very good idea as it prevents kinking in the rubber tubing used to route air from the snorkel into the rear end cap to the LBP pump. Yet, I did not receive a manifold in my 3.5" 1/72 Skipjack SAS SD assembly. Was this just an oversight or has the manifold been dropped from the parts list? I can route the tubing forward but only if I take care not to cause a small radius in the tubing which leads to kinks.

I hate to say this, but .... that's a good question, Dan.

The tapering hull of the SKIPJACK, and the very tight annular space between motor-bulkhead and hull, precludes inclusion of the motor-bulkhead SAS manifold. However, there is room for the two lengths of flexible hose to pass the annular space without interference. Yes, you have to provide a significant radius to prevent kinking, but you have enough flexible hose and room in the boats ass-end to make up the induction and discharge hoses to the motor-bulkheads nipples directly.

      David,

I'll be careful - nothing too kinky.

I tried running the hoses past the sd but I had to work around the klickons etc. So I went back to the manifold block to run the lines. Which I keep inplace with rubber bands, the way I found to keep the radius was to lay them down to look like a couple of streched s shapes.
        Cheers,
        Alec.

          Alec,

Which version of SD are you referring to?

Some pictures of your solution would very instructive.

            G'day Dan.

I have the SAS version. I have run the boat on both the extended lines and most recently at a club regatta with the manifold block. Which was a pretty good run that had the most run time in the water so I can comfortably say a last and successful sea trial.

              Alec,

Sorry, but I can't tell from the picture which SAS you have. 2.5", 3.5" --?? It does appear, though, that you do have a manifold at the rear to route the tubing forward which pretty much rules out the Skipjack 3.5" version.

So, which SAS version (diameter) is it?

If you have the time, a few more pictures of how you arranged your equipment tray in the rear section would be helpful as well.

              Thanks for your help,

              Dan

Sorry Dan I just assumed you were talking the Skipjack sas SD. Which is what I have.

                        Alec,

Yes, I have the 3.5" Skipjack SAS SD too.

David's pictures clearly show how to run the tubing for the SAS feature. They appear to agree with how you described your set up as well.

Thanks to all for the help,

I put a written report in my thread over in the builders section so as not to hijack Dans thread.
