Trumpeter Seawolf hull decal scale

The scale of the decal hull depth markings on the rudder are not the same as the ones on the hull. The decals on the rudder seem correct and the hull seem very large and out of scale along with the PROJ decal. Could it be that because the hull markings are on a curved surface and viewed from the water will appear to be the same as the rudder, which is horizontal? Or, did Trumpeter get it wrong? What did David do on the Seawolf's he built?
