US Los Angeles Class Submarine Kit in 1:100 Scale
Take command of of of America's most iconic fast-attack submarines with this superb kit originally mastered and molded by Walter Berggren!
The Los Angeles class boats are nuclear-powered fast attack submarines (SSN) in service with the United States Navy. The submarines are also known as the 688 class, after the hull number of lead vessel USS Los Angeles (SSN-688). They represent two generations and close to half a century of the Navy's attack submarine fleet.
Note the superb details and scribing, including thousands of scribed anechoic tiles, offering unparalleled realism.
This kit was originally designed as a dry-hull boat, and that option is still available to the builder, if desired, though I highly recommend splitting the boat at the centerline and installing proper watertight cylinder.
The sail is integrated into the upper hull. There are five lower hull sections that will need to be drilled and tapped for installation for a dry hull boat access, or permanently adhered in place if used as a dry hull boat. These sections are solid resin and make for great ballast for the boat.
Due to the lower hull sections, a 2.5" diameter cylinder is recommended.
Also included is a scale ringed propeller, made from high-strength nylon plastic.

As this boat is laid up here at the Nautilus Drydocks directly, we can offer unmatched versatility in construction. Standard layup includes one layer of thickened epoxy followed by two layers of 6oz cloth, resulting in an exceptionally light hull. Standard layup also offers the hull halves, bow and stern sections in separate halves. In order to keep the price as low as possible, parts come untrimmed, meaning you'll need to trim the edges of the layup with a cutoff wheel in a rotary tool and sand the lip for a perfectly flat finish.
Options for your custom layup include:
1.) Dry hull or static display layup: hull is one piece, bow is one piece, stern is one piece. Lower hull sections still need to be installed by the builder
2.) Thickened layup: Some people prefer a stiffer hull. This option includes a layer of thickened epoxy, a layer of 6oz cloth, and a layer of 18oz cloth for the main hull sections. This can help with hull rigidity and alignment, and help reduce warping over time. It also increases the size of the ballast tank needed to get the boat to designed waterline.
3.) Trimmed parts: We'll handle the final trimming of your parts to ensure a flush mating surface for your upper and lower hulls.
