I'm completing the job of refurbishing some of the original Small World Models (SWM) appendage masters, turning those into production tools, and providing Bob with metal and resin parts. Those parts added to the GRP hulls manufactured by another outfit.
I've already completed that work on the SWM 1/96 BLUEBACK kit. Right now I'm finishing similar work for the SWM 1/96 KILO.
Dave Manley, an exceptionally talented model-maker, originated the SWM line. Most of his submarine end of the business was sold to Mr. Caswell a few years back and I got to work, assisted by Kevin Rimrodt, fabricating kit parts, assembling them, getting them operational, and documenting the results as part of our planned sales effort.
About two years ago Caswell sold the model submarine business to Bob Martin and I was part of the package. SD and master work continued uninterrupted. The SWM submarine kits are still on track for commercial sales. Joining the BLUEBACK soon will be the 1/96 KILO. Some of that work chronicled in this thread. Looks like the 1/96 OYASHIO will be next up for sale to the general public. More on that later.
I assembled a KILO kit and have been operating it for about a year now. A great runner, as can be seen at the beginning of this video: https://youtu.be/nWrWKm95kCE
And here's a shot of that model as I was applying the weathering.
Most of the original master work by Dave Manley was used without change. But some items, such as the oversized propeller and stern-cone after tapper had to be addressed by either making new masters or modifying the existing masters
This weekend was spent readying the sail and tail-cone masters for pouring of the RTV rubber that would become the production tools for resin part creation.
