    Darnell X Craft Build Update

I've spent most of the past 8 months remodeling my house and today I found a few moments to remodel my X Craft. The break from the model has been very good as I was stuck and couldn't figure out how to fix the difference in height for the push-rods and how to get at the overall aft assemblies easily.

It dawned on me eventually that Darnel hadn't designed the top cover very well, as the push-rod and prop shaft connectors were extremely difficult to get at. So, with a fine toothed tenon saw, I removed about 6" back on the upper half as you can see from these photos.

I now have to figure out some sort of bulkhead to hold the aft push-rods and prop shaft in place, in order that the Sub-driver locates the Kilk-ons and dogbone correctly.

Any ideas on how I should do this would be appreciated.

I'm going to fix the smaller upper section so it is held on with magnets, just like the larger section.

The boat is almost ready for the water.
Stop messing about - just get a Sub-driver!

    Hey Mike,
good to see this is back on track. A great boat, that I'd consider getting away from 72nd scale to do. Bigger photos please.

We have been donated a model X Craft from Alan Poole UK. It's a better, and more accurate model than Darnell's (bearing in mind that Darnell's was done with very little reference material being available back then). As soon as David has a spare moment, he's going to make a master from the model. (We have Alan's permission).
