I just couldnt stand it! I had to put that beautiful sail together. I took one picture of it in my hand so that you could see how large it is, not to mention the fantastic detail. Obviously there are more parts. Ill put the grab irons on later. The hatch tube going down into the sub....I didnt need it so I nixed it. Ive got the hatch closed.. Also, that periscope. I think I want a crack at doing something with it. Stay tuned.Click image for larger version

Thanks Gman. Was looking for a local source of the Dremel mini ripsaw but couldn't find one. All that's available looks similar to wjat you used. I see that it can very much handle the job, might get one myself.

We live in the suburbs just outside the capital Manila. We only experienced very high gusts of wind and few heavy rains. We were lucky compared to those hit by the storm surges. I believe some of Ellie's relatives were affected.

Redboat, how were you affected by the Typhoon that hit the Philippines? I hope that you and your family were spared.

Sure I can Mr. Redboat. Here they are. I used the larger one on this job. The smaller one comes mounted on a shaft. The larger one has to be mounted on this spring loaded Mandrel deal thing.Click image for larger version

Thanks Manfred, I need people to keep an eye on me to keep me from making a CATASTROPHIC booboo. Well here it is all opened up. I dont think that there is enough room to drill another hole in that arm so I think that I will thin out the inside of the inspection hatch somewhat and take a little off of the end of the arm. You know.......compromise. The hatch and the surfaces need to be cleaned up a little more. Ill probably leave the hatch off, just in case until its time to paint it after everything else is sorted out. The fittings kit came with one velcro holddown strap, I need two. So Ill put some hooks into the supports in the front for the battery WTC.Click image for larger version

I like that practical thinking Mark,

I wonder if the same method was used on the real XXIII, i guess to reach into the darkest places of the XXIII, it would be quite possible, especially at wartime, when things had to be done with the tools you have, let us now enjoy the rest of your journey, i'm watching you

However, "Time and Unforeseen Occurrence Befall Us All". It was at some point that I realized that the rudder linkage was locked up. From the posted picture, you can just make out that the white metal rudder arm is too big for the space available within that narrow section on the stern of the type 23..............................So there is a inspection hatch scribed in at that location. I will ....gingerly....cut it out to access that mechanism and make whatever changes that need to be made. I say gingerly because I want to re-use that hatch to be able to get in there again in the future If need be.Click image for larger version

Today was the day. I set up the previously prepared cutting platform and cutting tool and went at it. First of all this board was not wide enough to make the cuts from both side, so I cut one side and then flip the model around and make the cuts on the otherside. I used a tri-square to ascertain plum and then set it with this piece of alluminum angle with a 3/16" hole drilled in one end to go around the prop shaft and attached to the end of the board.
I started out slow and made three good shallow passes using the diamond blade at a slower RPM. When I was done with the horizontal cuts I changed tools and gear and made careful, thoughtful .......did I say careful?.......cuts with the razor saw. It turned out well.Click image for larger version
