Know all about Navy inspections, good luck! I have that book also. Thanks for the help and Sub-driver for all the links. I was just down to Carmel IN. and was given two 1/40 typ VIIB/C hulls to match the one I already have. So it seems my projects just grew. will keep intouch.

Hi Jim,

Sorry for the delay getting back. We have been getting USS Pampanito ready for our Navy inspection this week. The links below are good for references, also I purchase Imperial Japanese Submarines by osprey press that has pictures and color profiles of Japanese B & C type submarines.

Hi Keith,

I'm a volunteer on the USS COBIA in Manitowoc WI. I also build R/C subs. I have the I-53 kit but am have a problem finding any info on these boats. Can you let me know what you used?

it was a pleasure having you and your wife aboard Pampanito. It's always nice to have your work appreciated as I never considered myself more than a good model builder compared to the excellent work I have seen on this site. Now to get this thing finished so I can complete my skipjack start my Pampanito and? Well get the museum to make my plexi cases.

After seeing Keith's build in person Monday all I can say is WOW!!!! He did a fantastic job with all the scratch building involved and is well versed on the details involved with IJN subs. Finally Lindberg's kit resembles something that actually served in the Japanese Imperial Naval fleet.

Hi Bruce,

Thanks, although not accurate the boat is big and a great base for scratch building something better.
I am happy I stuck with this as it has turned out better than I thought.. A far cry from what was boxed.

I bought the I-53 kit while the 1-20 was on pre order, and kinda had a premonition that the 53 was really off. It was pics on this site that motivated me to begin this as a scratch building project, a nightmare at first but fun after that.. its what true modeling is about right? it gained momentum when my I-20 on preorder was cancelled. I am posting some new pics and have been experimenting with the deck weathering this last week.

Next I will complete my Skipjack as the USS Shark. The next project is the USS Pampanito from USS Gato Kit and Iron Bottom sound conversion kit.. As this is the boat I work on. We are celebrating our 70th Bday next Wednesday 11/6.

As David here knows, I was one who has patiently waited for Lindberg & their new owners to get their act together on this & their planned C type kit but that's turned into something as frustrating as searching for the Holy Grail. A friend of mine has the I-53 kit with plans to convert into I-19 scout sub so I've forwarded him this link to follow.

Chuck (herrmill) did much more than patiently wait on that kit. He was the lead guy evaluating it when it hit the streets, and assumed the sad task of identifying it's many flaws. But, more than that, Chuck chronicled what had to be done to fix it. His careful research and reasoned presentations on the matter has been an aid to me and many others.

Chuck knows his stuff!
