    Trimming - Foam (U.K.)

Can somebody recommend a source of foam to use when trimming my submarine please ?

I've used the following but am not convinced it's what I should be using https://www.efoam.co.uk/closed-cell-...ylene-foam.php

On this side of the pond we typically use rigid expanded styrene foam board and I believe in the UK it's called XPS and it is usually blue or green or pink. It's used for insulation and it comes in dimensional sizes 3/4 " thick is what I work with. It cuts well with a power saw it and sands nicely on a belt sander. It can be painted with an oil-based paint-but not spray paint, and glues well with epoxy or RTV or construction adhesive . More importantly it is closed cell and will not retain water.

Closed cell polyethylene typically found in pfds and pool noodles... It's soft but it will work... Although it might not hold shape like expanded styrene will.

I have used it in the early days... Considering the larger size of the polyethylene cells compared to expanded styrene foam, when you cut closed cell polyethylene you are in fact opening many more cells per cut -I have never trusted polyethylene to maintain long-term flotation.

It would make a good subject for an experimental test.
