    Sheerline 1:27 German IID

Soon I shall start posting my progress on this build. I'm trying to get it to a status of operational readiness by the end of July so that I can wring out the bugs at the 2011 Sub Regatta in Carmel, IN

The sub is a Type IID in 1:27th scale at about 66" long. I wanted something bigger to work on but not so large that I couldn't handle it in my car or in and out of the water. Whether I succeeded or not remains to be seen.

The ballast system is an enclosed pressurized stainless steel tank. Water is pumped into the tank to take on weight for diving which builds up the air pressure in the tank. The pressure is checked by a pinch valve. To surface, the pinch valve is opened, the pressure forces the water out and the boat surfaces. That's the theory. Lots of people have used this system with great success.

Today, I went to my friend's house where he has a mill/drill machine. In the upcoming weeks I'll be milling out the flood holes and showing pictures of the progress.

    Stay tuned,
