    S.m. U-1

    Some on the board might remember that I once built a 180 m long model of the S.M. U-1, Germany's first military submarine from 1906. As it resembles the original boat pretty well, there are many shortcomings when it comes to accuracy of the hull shape. Bothered me....as I still think that the boat was a beauty, I started to employ my since then improved CAD skills to give the boat another shot, at least on CAD level. Here's the first draft....

    The transition from the flat side decks into the bow is a vry tricky thing and I think most models got it wrong. I stared at the few fotos available and think, that I got pretty close. Also the transition on the stern section is very tricky. Using the only plans available and the few cross sections in it, I think it must have looked like in my draft. Otherwise there would have been no way to fit the pressure hull below the outer hull.

    So 'll continue improving that model and see where that gets me.
