You may wonder why I have a witch and her cat riding a torpedo as my avatar. She's a ghost from the past, flown from the conning tower of the WWII British S Class submarine HMS Sybil. My dad was Sibyl's Chief Petty Officer operating out of Trincomalee, Ceylon.
Sybil was painted a dark Brunswick Green above the waterline, and as we have no color photos of the boat, we can only hazard a guess as to the torpedo colors. I've taken the liberty of sporting her a new chariot in the form of one of David Merriman's new model torpedoes. I'll bet there were a number of Japanese seamen who seeing Sybil surface may have noticed the Witch as her 3" gun sent them to eternity. Sybil gunned down over fifteen vessels in the tour of duty through the Malacca Straights. She was depth charged three times and strafed by aircraft for her troubles.
