    Putting Screws through a Gel Coat

    While I realise this may not apply to smaller boats, I found this article very interesting. It describes how to correctly install a screw into a gel coat hull. It seems that the major secret is to taper the hole through the gel coat and this stops the screw from cracking the gel, allowing water to penetrate further.


    Over the years, especially in the last few weeks via PM's/emails, I have been asked how I bed deck hardware with butyl tape. I officially apologize
