Sensing Presence of Water - Best way in a model sub?

Working on a design for controlling a snorkel valve.
Wondering how ya'all sense the presence of water electronically?
Simplest configuration would be a NO micro-switch controlled by a float that closes the switch.
A little nervous about running a micro-switch in a wet environment given corrosion.
Is there a favorite proven micro-switch out there for this configuration?... or don't go there?
    Other options?
