Personally-I like Tamiya flat or semi flat-it smells like hell but is compatible with a lot and has a nice spray pattern- Its one of those synthetic lacquer/enamel hybrids that nobody really knows what it is.

Find a rattle-can satin clear-coat who's chemistry is compatible with the paints, decals, dry-transfers, and weathering agents already laid down.

This should go without saying,but makeup test strips or test boards and apply all your finishes as Dave mentioned above.... Do not take suggestions and guidance as gospel. Actually test the clear coat on those test strips- even to the point of putting them in the water for hours that's the only way you can be sure what you've chosen is compatible... And if it's not compatible no harm done.

What is the most preferred clear coat?! keeping in mind I do not yet have an airbrush.
